The project

Hunch is a new art work by artist Emma Smith to collect and share future predictions made by residents of Cambridge. Commissioned by UNIVERSITY ARMS, CAMBRIDGE the project traces a history of local prophecy and future thinking from the Roman era to the present day.

Developed through a programme of public events exploring the history of UNIVERSITY ARMS, Parker’s Piece and their location in Cambridge the project invited hundreds of people to contribute their ideas about the future based on things they have a hunch might happen but which they cannot yet prove. The work culminates in a large-scale performance choreographed around the floor plans of the historic feasts held on Parker’s Piece and centered around a live oracle.
